The GEMINI Series: Double Head Cutting Machines for Aluminum & PVC/Vinyl Profile Fabrication

Double Head Cutting Machine
Double Head Cutting Machine

In aluminum and PVC/vinyl window, door, and curtain wall fabrication, every frame member starts the same way: a length of extrusion that needs to be cut to exact dimensions, at precise angles, before it can become part of a finished unit. Get those cuts right — clean, square, and consistent — and the rest of fabrication flows. Get them wrong, and you're carrying errors through every downstream operation: poor corner joints, gaps at assembly, and rework that compounds across every frame you touch.

A double head cutting machine puts two saw blades on a single beam. One head is fixed; the other travels along the X axis under servo control, so the gap between the blades is set to the exact length of the piece being cut. Both heads cut simultaneously — one pass through the machine, both ends processed at the same time, same angle, same depth. No flipping, no repositioning, no second pass.

The GEMINI series from Oz Machine USA is a complete lineup of double head cutting machines for aluminum and PVC/vinyl profile fabrication, spanning from semi-automatic digital machines for smaller shops to fully automatic 3-axis servo-controlled systems for high-volume production environments. Six machines, one underlying principle — and the right one for your shop depends on your blade size requirements, your angle range, and how much of the cutting cycle you want the machine to handle automatically.

What Is Double Head Cutting — and Why Does It Matter?

On a single-head saw, cutting a profile to length means two operations: cut one end, flip or reposition the profile, cut the other. Every reposition is an opportunity for error. On a double head machine, the moving head is positioned to the target length and locked; when the cycle runs, both ends are cut in the same pass. The result is a part with both ends cut simultaneously, to the same angle, under the same conditions — with no repositioning variable between the first cut and the second.

Pneumatic clamping holds the profile during the cut. Intermediate profile supports prevent long sections from deflecting under their own weight, which would pull the cut out of square. The combination of fixed geometry, dual simultaneous cutting, and positive clamping is what makes double head machines the standard for production profile cutting in aluminum and PVC/vinyl fabrication.

The angle capability — how the heads rotate and how that rotation is controlled — is where the GEMINI models diverge most significantly from one another.

Standard Equipment: hydro-pneumatic cutting feed adjustment, electro control X axis, 2 carbide saw blades Optional: vacuum cleaner for chips

The GEMINI-II A is the right starting point for shops that need double head capability — simultaneous two-end cutting, digital length control, pneumatic clamping — without the servo automation of the larger models. It also handles wood profiles, which sets it apart from the rest of the GEMINI lineup.

GEMINI-IV SA: Semi-Automatic Double Head Cutting Machine, Ø 18"

The GEMINI-IV SA steps up to an 18" (450mm) blade and 1-axis servo control on the X axis, adding servo-driven head positioning to the semi-automatic platform.

Key Features

●     18" (450mm) carbide saw blades, 2.2 kW motor per head

●     1-axis servo control on the X axis for precise, repeatable head positioning

●     Rapid angle positioning of heads hydro-pneumatically to 45° and 90°

Standard Equipment: hydro-pneumatic cutting feed adjustment, servo drive X axis, carbide saw blades (2 pcs) Optional: vacuum cleaner for chips

The GEMINI-IV SA is the first machine in the lineup with servo X axis positioning, which brings faster and more repeatable head travel than manual or basic electro-controlled systems. The 18" blade handles a wider range of aluminum and PVC/vinyl profile sections than the 16" GEMINI-II A, and automatic intermediate support on a machine loading profiles up to 314" makes a meaningful difference in cut quality on long sections.

GEMINI-V SA: Semi-Automatic Double Head Cutting Machine, Ø 22"

The GEMINI-V SA uses the same 1-axis servo platform as the GEMINI-IV SA but steps up to 22" (550mm) saw blades, the same blade diameter used across the fully automatic GEMINI models. It adds rapid head angle positioning at 2.5°, 45°, and 90° — a finer preset angle than the IV SA — and extends the cutting envelope.

Key Features

●     22" (550mm) carbide saw blades, 3 kW motor per head

●     1-axis servo control on X axis

●     Rapid angle positioning of heads hydro-pneumatically at 2.5°, 45°, and 90°

●     Hydro-pneumatic controlled rotation axis of head

●     Maximum internal rotation angle 90°, maximum external rotation angle -22.5°

●     X axis positioning speed 1,575" (40,000mm)/min

●     Profile height measurement

●     Maximum profile loading length 314" (8,000mm)

●     Footprint: 343" x 74" x 70", weighing 3,462 lbs

Standard Equipment: hydro-pneumatic cutting feed adjustment, electro control X axis, carbide saw blades (2 pcs), roller conveyor on moving head Optional: vacuum cleaner for chips, roller conveyor on fixed head

With a 22" blade, 3 kW per head, and an X axis speed of 1,575"/min, the GEMINI-V SA delivers full production blade capacity in a semi-automatic package. The 2.5° preset angle is useful for specific frame configurations that require slight compound angles. It's the top of the semi-automatic tier — machines that still require operator-set head angles but automate the length positioning and cutting cycle.

GEMINI-V R: Fully Automatic Double Head Cutting Machine, Ø 22"

The GEMINI-V R is the step into full 3-axis servo automation — servo control on the X axis, on both cutting heads, and on the blade rotation, so head angles are set automatically by the machine rather than by the operator. The V R positions heads to any angle between -22.5° and 45°, covering the standard miter range for aluminum and PVC/vinyl window and door frames.

Key Features

●     22" (550mm) carbide saw blades, 3 kW motor per head

●     3-axis servo control: X axis, both heads, and rotation axis

●     Servo-controlled head rotation to any angle between -22.5° and 45°

●     Rapid automatic head positioning at any point within the angle range

●     Hydro-pneumatic cutting feed adjustment

●     Industrial PC (IPC) with touchscreen HMI

●     Horizontal and vertical pneumatic clamps

●     Automatic intermediate profile support (2 pcs)

●     Roller conveyors on both moving and fixed heads

●     Slicing mode at 90°; angle slicing mode at complementary angle spans

●     Remote access; data transfer via Ethernet and USB

●     Barcode printer (optional)

●     Cutting range: 16" to 172" (360mm to 4,930mm) with double head at 90°/45°

●     Maximum profile loading length 315" (8,000mm)

●     Footprint: 343" x 74" x 70", weighing 3,528 lbs

Standard Equipment: hydro-pneumatic cutting feed adjustment, 2 carbide saw blades, roller conveyors on both heads Optional: digital adjustment saw blade travel distance, barcode printer, dust extractor

The transition from the GEMINI-V SA to the GEMINI-V R is the transition from semi-automatic to fully automatic cutting: the operator programs the cut list, and the machine positions both the length and the head angles automatically. This is where variable-angle production — shops that regularly cut frames at multiple angles per shift — realizes the biggest throughput gains.

GEMINI-VI: Fully Automatic Double Head Cutting Machine, Ø 24"

The GEMINI-VI is the largest-blade machine in the standard GEMINI lineup — a 3-axis servo-controlled double head cutter with 24" (600mm) saw blades. The larger blade diameter means a larger cutting arc, which translates to the ability to process wider and taller profile sections than the 22" machines can handle at the same angles.

Key Features

●     24" (600mm) carbide saw blades, 3 kW motor per head

●     3-axis servo control with maximum internal rotation angle 45°, maximum external rotation angle -22.5°

●     X axis positioning speed 1,575" (40,000mm)/min

●     Profile height measurement

●     Smart Touchscreen Panel PC

●     Horizontal and vertical pneumatic clamps

●     Automatic intermediate profile support (2 pcs)

●     Cooling lubrication system

●     Slicing mode

●     Remote access; data transfer via Ethernet and USB

●     Cutting range: 18 7/8" to 198 13/16" (480mm to 5,050mm) at 90°; 28 3/8" to 198 13/16" (720mm to 5,050mm) at 45°

●     Maximum profile loading length 314" (8,000mm)

●     Footprint: 356" x 89" x 64", weighing 4,410 lbs

Standard Equipment: hydro-pneumatic cutting feed adjustment, electro control X axis, carbide saw blades (2 pcs), roller conveyor on moving head Optional: vacuum cleaner for chips, roller conveyor on fixed head

If your profile catalog includes sections that push the cutting capacity of a 22" blade — heavier commercial aluminum extrusions, large-format curtain wall frames, or reinforced profiles — the GEMINI-VI's 24" blade extends the range. The machine shares the same 3-axis servo automation and smart panel PC as the other fully automatic GEMINI models; the blade is the difference.

GEMINI-X: Radial Double Head Cutting Machine, Ø 22" — 3 Axis Servo Control

The GEMINI-X is the flagship of the GEMINI series, and its defining capability is radial head rotation: servo-controlled head angles continuously variable between 30° and 90°, not just at fixed presets. This means the GEMINI-X can execute a cut at any angle in that range — 33°, 41°, 67°, whatever the program calls for — without the operator setting or adjusting anything. The machine positions both heads to the programmed angle automatically.

Key Features

●     22" (550mm) carbide saw blades, 3 kW per head (fixed head: 4 HP / 3 kW; moving head: 1.7 HP / 1.3 kW)

●     3-axis servo control — servo-controlled rotation axis at any angle between 30° and 90°

●     Rapid head positioning via servo control (X axis speed: 1,570"/40m per min)

●     Hydro-pneumatic cutting feed adjustment

●     Cutting zone protection covers with profile height measurement

●     Smart Touchscreen Panel PC

●     Remote access, data transfer via Ethernet and USB

●     Horizontal and vertical pneumatic clamps

●     Automatic intermediate profile support (3 pcs — more than any other GEMINI model)

●     Cooling lubrication system; slicing mode

●     Cutting range: 18" to 236" (450mm to 6,000mm) — the longest maximum cutting length in the lineup

●     Maximum profile loading length 314" (8,000mm)

●     Footprint: 356" x 89" x 64", weighing 4,410 lbs

Standard Equipment: electro control X axis, carbide saw blades (2 pcs), roller conveyor on moving head, digital adjustment saw blade stroke distance Optional: vacuum cleaner for chips, roller conveyor on fixed head

Two things set the GEMINI-X apart from every other machine in the lineup. First, the radial rotation: while the other fully automatic GEMINI models position heads to a fixed set of preset angles (45°, 90°, -22.5°), the GEMINI-X servo positions to any angle continuously in the 30°–90° range, which matters for shops running specialty angles, complex frame geometries, or projects where the design spec doesn't land on a standard miter. Second, the maximum cutting length of 236" (6,000mm) — significantly longer than the 172"–199" ceilings on the other models — gives the GEMINI-X the range to handle large curtain wall spans and long commercial frame members that the rest of the lineup can't reach.

Which GEMINI Is Right for Your Shop?

Choose the GEMINI-II A if you're entering double head cutting with moderate volumes, cut aluminum, PVC/vinyl, and wood, and need a compact, cost-effective machine with digital positioning and pneumatic clamping without full servo automation.

Choose the GEMINI-IV SA if you need an 18" blade and servo X axis positioning for faster, more repeatable head travel — a step up from basic semi-automatic in a machine that handles longer profiles than the II A.

Choose the GEMINI-V SA if you want 22" blade capacity and the tightest preset angle (2.5°) in the semi-automatic tier. This is the ceiling of the semi-auto lineup — full production blade size, high X axis speed, automatic profile support.

Choose the GEMINI-V R if you're ready for full 3-axis servo automation on a 22" platform: the machine positions both head length and head angles automatically from a programmed cut list, covering the standard -22.5° to 45° miter range.

Choose the GEMINI-VI if your profile catalog includes sections that need more cutting arc than a 22" blade provides. Same 3-axis servo automation as the V R, with a 24" blade that extends the height and width capacity.

Choose the GEMINI-X if your production includes specialty angles, complex frame geometries, or very long profiles. The radial servo rotation — any angle between 30° and 90° — and the 236" maximum cutting length are capabilities none of the other GEMINI models offer.

The Business Case for Double Head Cutting

For shops still running single-head saws or manually-set double head setups, the productivity case for servo-controlled double head cutting is direct:

Both ends in one pass. Every profile is cut to final length with both ends processed simultaneously — no repositioning, no second cut, no second opportunity for error to creep in.

Consistent angle on every part. Servo-controlled head rotation means the machine sets the angle, not the operator. On a high-volume shift cutting multiple frame sizes and miter configurations, that consistency compounds: every piece cut to the same geometry, regardless of shift time or operator fatigue.

Faster changeover between cut programs. On fully automatic models, switching between cut lengths and angles is a program selection, not a manual adjustment. For shops running mixed product — different frame sizes, different window systems, different angles on the same shift — the time saved on setups adds up significantly over a production week.

Less scrap from length and angle errors. Inaccurate single-head cutting and manual angle missets are two of the most common sources of profile scrap in aluminum and PVC/vinyl fabrication. A servo-controlled double head machine removes both variables from the equation.
